Overview

PDFCreator converts any printable file to PDF from a print job on Windows, and can merge and reorder pages, encrypt documents, apply digital signatures and save to PDF/A. It comes in Free, Professional, Terminal Server and Server editions covering personal devices, Citrix/RDS environments and server-side batch processing. Workflows are automated with multiple printers and profiles, auto-save, user tokens, C# scripts and a COM interface.

Best for
Windows teams that need to create, secure and automate PDFs on desktops, terminal servers or servers.
Pricing
No PDFCreator prices are shown in the captured text — it lists a free edition, paid Professional, Terminal Server and Server editions and a 30-day trial, while the captured pricing page belongs to a different product, PDF Architect (£94/user/year Pro, £146/user/year Business).

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Open source; code can be modified under a copyleft licence
  • Desktop, terminal server and server-side deployments
  • Encryption, digital signatures and PDF/A archiving included
  • Automation via C# scripts, COM interface and auto-save

Trade-offs

  • Windows only; no macOS or Linux version is mentioned.
  • Free edition is for personal use, so business use needs a paid edition.
  • Encryption, user tokens and CS-script need the Professional edition.
  • No PDFCreator prices published; the pricing page shown is for PDF Architect.
