Overview

Windmill is a code-first orchestration platform for internal software. A single file of TypeScript, Python, Go, Bash or 20+ other languages becomes an API, a triggerable job and an auto-generated form, and these can be composed into workflows, internal apps and data pipelines. The workspace is versioned in Git and self-hosted on Docker, Fargate or Kubernetes.

Best for
Engineering teams building internal apps, workflows and data pipelines in code they self-host
Pricing
Free open-source edition at $0/month; Enterprise from $120/month, with seats at $20/month per developer, $10 per operator and $50 per worker per month.
Runs on
WebSelf-hostedCLI

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Open source and self-hostable on Docker, Fargate or Kubernetes
  • Scripts in TypeScript, Python, Go, Bash and 20+ languages
  • Whole workspace versioned in Git; build in the UI or locally
  • 100+ built-in integrations including PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Kafka

Trade-offs

  • Free tier caps 3 workspaces, 4 groups and 30-day job run retention
  • Audit logs, autoscaling, SAML and Kafka triggers are Enterprise-only
  • Free SSO limited to 10 users; uncapped SSO requires paid seats
  • Cost mixes seats and compute units, so needs the simulator to estimate
