Overview
Firebase is Google's platform of managed services for building and running mobile and web apps. It bundles backend products such as Firestore, Realtime Database, Authentication, Cloud Functions, Hosting and Cloud Storage with run-time tools including Crashlytics, Remote Config, A/B Testing and Test Lab. Cross-platform SDKs cover Apple platforms, Android, Web, Flutter, Unity and C++.
- Best for
- Mobile and web app teams wanting Google-hosted backend services and app analytics in one place.
- Pricing
- A no-cost Spark plan, then the pay-as-you-go Blaze plan charges per unit above free quotas — for example $0.40 per million Cloud Function invocations, $0.026/GB Hosting storage and $5/GB stored in Realtime Database — with $300 in credit if eligible.

Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Free Spark plan needs no payment method
- SDKs for Apple platforms, Android, Web, Flutter, Unity and C++
- Covers build and run: hosting, auth, database and crash reporting
- Integrates with BigQuery, Google Ads, AdMob, Slack and Jira
Trade-offs
- Metered per-product billing makes monthly cost hard to predict upfront
- Blaze plan bills many services at underlying Google Cloud rates
- No-cost Cloud Storage quotas only cover three US regions
- Free Cloud SQL trial instance is archived after three months
