Overview

Spacedrive connects the files, drives, devices and cloud storage you own into one local-first app you can browse and search. The current version is a native Rust rewrite, GPU-rendered and Mac-first, where every photo, file and note is stored as a record on one index. It runs on your own computer, with optional agents you enable to do work across your data.

Best for
People whose files are spread across laptops, NAS, phones and cloud storage and want one local index.
Pricing
No prices are shown; the site states only that the new version is bought once, with no subscription, cloud or account.

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Local-first: runs on your machine, no account and no telemetry
  • Indexes devices, drives and cloud storage in one library
  • Native Rust and GPU-rendered; 129,000 photos scroll at 60fps
  • Bought once rather than by subscription

Trade-offs

  • New native app is Mac-first; the site says a demo is still coming
  • Site admits the product has not yet caught up to the description
  • No cloud or account, so nothing syncs or backs up off the machine
  • Open-source Spacedrive is a separate project from the paid app
