Overview

Graphite is an open source 2D graphics editor that pairs layer-based compositing with a node graph, so edits stay nondestructive and can be changed later by adjusting node parameters. It runs locally in a browser via WebAssembly and WebGPU with no server, opens without signup, and exports SVG, PNG and JPG. It is currently in alpha.

Best for
Designers and illustrators wanting a free, node-based vector editor for procedural 2D artwork
Pricing
No prices are shown; the software is described as forever free and open source, funded by optional donations or membership

Strengths and trade-offs

Trade-offs

  • Alpha software; raster, animation and collaboration are still upcoming
  • Desktop apps only via Discord release candidates, not general release
