Overview

Tabbles is a relational file manager that keeps tags for files, bookmarks and Outlook emails in a database rather than in file names or folders. Tags can be applied by hand or by rules that match a file's path, name or content, including regular expressions. Teams share tagging through an MSSQL server database, with privileges set per user and per group.

Best for
Windows teams that want to tag and search files across local, network and cloud drives
Pricing
No prices are shown on the captured pages; the site links to a separate 'Buy' page.

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Tags any file type without renaming files or adding hidden files
  • Auto-tagging rules by path, name, content or regular expressions
  • Timestamped, chat-like comments on files, bookmarks and emails
  • Mass deployment via Group Policies and Active Directory user import

Trade-offs

  • .Net client with .exe/.msi installers; no non-Windows client is mentioned
  • Server runs entirely inside a Microsoft SQL database; no other backend shown
  • Tags are held in a database, so they do not travel with the files themselves
  • No prices published on the captured pages, only a 'Buy' link
