Overview

HyperDX is an open source observability platform that brings session replays, logs, traces, metrics and errors into one place. It stores events in ClickHouse on object storage and uses OpenTelemetry for instrumentation, so no extra agents or sidecars are needed. It offers full-text search, clustered log patterns, a chart builder and alerting.

Best for
Engineering teams wanting open source observability billed on data volume rather than seats or hosts
Pricing
Free plan at $0/month, Starter at $20/month including 50 GB with $0.40 per extra GB, and custom-priced Enterprise.
Runs on
WebSelf-hosted

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Billed on data volume only - no per-user or per-host charges
  • OpenTelemetry instrumentation; no agents or sidecars required
  • Session replays link automatically to backend logs and traces
  • Alerts via Slack, Email or PagerDuty; live tail and JSON parsing

Trade-offs

  • Free tier caps at 3 GB/month, 3-day retention and a single user
  • Data over 50 GB/month costs $0.40 per GB on top of the flat fee
  • Metrics billed separately at $0.40 per 100 DPM; finer resolution costs more
  • SAML SSO is only listed on the custom-priced Enterprise plan
